Microsoft teams up with top providers to show exclusive content through Windows Live Messenger
By James Stables on 12 May 2008
Microsoft is to start offering music videos and clips of top TV shows through a new service called Messenger TV.
The TV service will form part of Windows Live Messenger, and will bring existing content being shown through MSN Video together with brand new deals with Channel 4 and music label EMI.
This means that Messenger TV will have access to shows such as Skins, Peep Show, How to Look Good Naked, Bremner Bird and Fortune, Father Ted, Shipwrecked, Shameless, Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares and Property Ladder.
Last year Microsoft struck a deal with Viacom to show MTV videos through MSN, and this content will be continued to be shown through Messenger TV.
Microsoft has worked to secure exclusive UK content for the 14 million British people who use Windows Live Messenger every month.
To start watching Messenger TV simply start a conversation with a Windows Live Messenger contact and then click the Activities menu.
If you don't want to rely on your friends to watch the service then add the special Messenger TV buddy to your contact list. Just add mesengertv@live.com and say hello to him to start using Messenger TV.
The service is to be rolled out across Europe from today.
