Watch live TV on your PC for free!

And choose from favourite channels such as Channel 4, CBBC and BBC News 24
By NickO on 20 December 2007

If, like me, you live in a city so old-fashioned that you can barely get terrestrial TV, let alone cable or Freeview, then Zattoo internet TV is a welcome alternative.

Zattoo is live TV on your computer. To get it, you need to go to http://zattoo.com, register for free, download it and then install it. Then you can immediately begin watching live TV programmes.

Previously only available to private viewers, anyone in the UK can now use it. It’s still in beta though, so it’s not quite finished yet.

The quality of video is comparable to regular TV, although it doesn’t look quite as good when you view it on a high-resolution monitor. Provided you don’t go full screen though, it’s still quite good, and the stereo audio is quite crisp.

A few of the channels that were available in the private beta version of Zattoo (such as BBC1) were removed for licensing reasons, but over the coming months Zattoo is hoping to restore these channels and add some interesting new ones.

My money’s on some of the digital Freeview channels being added, such as Film Four and E4, which would really put Zattoo head and shoulders above other internet TV competitors.

Please tell people it's only good for England, not Canada

To quote: "Previously only available to private viewers, anyone in the UK can now use it." Probably not as obvious as I could have been, but it's in there.
