Microsoft adds exciting new features to Multimap
Live Search enhancements to change the way we use maps online
By Matthew Hanson on 14 April 2008
Microsoft has unveiled its new set of features for Live Search that incorporate Multimap, the online map service that was acquired by Microsoft last year. Multimap from Live Search combines the advanced mapping technologies from both Multimap and Microsoft Virtual Earth to bring an improved and unique way of searching and navigating maps online, and including them with Live Search strengthens the search engine’s position as a fantastic online resource for finding information on the internet.
Visitors to the Multimap from Live Search web site will benefit from new features such as:
- Multiple map choices: from familiar road maps such as Collins Bartholomew (used in the popular A to Z services), Ordinance Survey, Telealtas to impressive Virtual Earth imagery such as Aerial and Birds Eye views
- Integration of key points of interest (e.g. train stations, petrol stations, traffic incidents)
- Wikipedia content with maps
- Local business finder service
- Ability to book hotels directly from maps
- Ability to save favourite places and send maps to mobile phones(using the mymultimap.com login)
- A journey carbon calculator
Cynthia Crossley, Director of Search for UK, said that “we are really excited about this first stage in bringing together our maps and search technologies under the Multimap from Live Search brand…This site is testament to our commitment to keep growing and strengthening our overall search, local and geo-targeting services for consumers and advertisers [and] Multimap’s long established reputation in the mapping space perfectly complements our experience and together we will continue to innovate to bring our users more cool maps and local search features.”
