My computer was only two weeks old (Dell) when the Hard-Drive died on a Saturday PM. I telephoned Dell and they went through the usual steps to find the problem (which I had already informed them).
The Dell rep` then informed me that a new HD would be sent to me via courier, which arrived on Tuesday (yesterday 2nd December) Dell phoned a few hours later and we began to reinstall Vista Home Premium (easy), and the drivers and utilities. It was not long before the PC was up and running again. It took up to about 2 hours to reinstall all the needed software etc. I did have to go on dell`s website and download the Dell Support Centre. Plus download my Antivirus/Antispyware etc.
So as you can see it was not a problem with spyware or a virus but a simple matter of a dodgy HD.
But I must say the after sales help from Dell was 100%. They could not do enough for me.

I've had Vista since it came out over a year ago and have only had to re-install Vista once due to a very stupid move on my part involving a disreputable download. Having learned my lesson I won't do that again. Vista has been an absolutely fantastic OS for me!

I have an Acer Aspire AST690 with Vista Home Premium. I use SeaMonkey for browsing and email. I was loading web pages from a flash drive that had been saved using IE7 from another computer. I would click on the file on the flash drive, it would load in IE7, I would then send the page using SeaMonkey. I was doing this as fast as the computer would allow me -- click on file > hit send page > fill in email addresses > send. This worked for about six files in a row and then IE7 would no longer launch SeaMonkey mail. No error messages just nothing. I checked the defaults for email clients to no avail. I eventually had to use the system restore to bring the hard drive back to original and reload everything before I could get IE7 to once again lauch SeaMonkey mail. The restore was no problem just an annoyance for having to take the time. Overall this computer beats Win 98 without even breaking a sweat.

I bought a computer with vista home basic already installed then got an upgrade disc for vista premium all was fine till i got some kind of virus and lost media center somehow. I tried the upgrade again thinking that would sort it out. but it didnt so after trying to sort the problem for a couple of days without success i reinstalled then done the upgrade again and its all good and well didnt take long maybe about 1- 1/2 hours but its having to get all the updates installed again on top thats annoying

I have never had to re-install vista. It has been the most reliable, trustworthy operating system for me since Windows 3.1. It has froze up 1 or two times over the year I have been using it, but thats all. Freez-ups in Windows 95, 98, and XP were almost a daily thing. I'm very pleased with Vista and hope Windows 7 is just as reliable for me.

I find vista a lot better but one question where do i find add and remove programmes
07/12/08 | 05:25

Nope, Never had to reinstall this OS. I'm running the 64 bit version and this thing is fast and stable. Never any issues running the latest hardware released in January of this year, about the same time Vista was released.

Yep, I had to have it reinstalled, by my favorite computer shop. I cleaned the disk of temp files, and then a disk check, and on reboot, it showed a fatal error. I could not get the reinstall disk to work. So to the shop it went, for a reinstall. The worst part,is when it boots up, it will not connect, sometimes. I'm trying, SP2, to see if it will help, and so far it has. But, all in all, I still like Vista.

When I got my hp quad core pc, I had problems, but it was an oem install gaff. I re-installed vista ult. and have had no problems since. Over a year ago.

I generally wind up doing a reinstall of whatever operating system I'm using about every six months or so, usually because I tinker with things and wind up cumulatively fouling things up beyond a simple undo or repair. After the next one, which is due about now, I'll do all my tinkering in virtual machines using VirtualPC before doing it on my "live" system. That's something I preach but don't always practice.... Sorry. //Steve//
