Maximize your laptop’s battery life – Part 2
If Windows Aero is sucking the life out of your laptop battery, we have the answer to your prayers
By James Stables on 17 May 2007
Since its release, many laptop users have complained that the new Aero graphics in Windows Vista are sucking their laptop batteries dry.
While evidence suggests that the Aero effects only demands an extra 1-4% power, this is still an issue if you are trying to make your battery last.
The problem for users is that turning these effects off permanently means living without the stunning interface of Windows Vista.
However, Clint Rutkas from betterthaneveryone.com has found a solution. He has written a tiny program which automatically turns off the Aero effects when you disconnect the power supply, and starts it again when you hook back up to the national grid.
Some users have criticised Windows Aero for being too demanding on laptop batteries.
The application just sits in your toolbar, and does all the hard work, maximizing your laptop battery life. You can download it here.
If you want to know other ways to extend your battery life, read Paul Douglas’ guide ‘Make your laptop battery last a day' here.
