Microsoft celebrates Windows Vista sales success
Windows Vista trounces its predecessor in the first month's sales
By James Stables on 29 March 2007
Microsoft is celebrating after fantastic first month sales of the new operating system Windows Vista. According to the company over 20 million licenses have been snapped up by customers, eager to access the benefits Windows Vista has to offer.
The statistics compare favourably when compared to Windows XP, Microsoft’s previous offering. Windows XP sold 17 million licenses in two months of trading, which highlights the impressive reception Windows Vista has received.
The 20 million licenses consist of those sent to manufacturers, box copies, and upgrades in the month between January 30 and February 28.
Neil Hand, vice president of Dell’s Consumer Product Group explained the reason for Windows Vista’s popularity.
“Since the launch of Windows Vista, Dell consumer customers have overwhelmingly chosen premium versions of the operating system that enable them to have a richer experience with music, video, photography and other computing applications they choose,” he said.
