Catch up service to come out of beta on Christmas day
By James Stables on 18 December 2007
The BBC is due to launch its on-demand catch up service, the iPlayer, on Christmas Day.
iPlayer has been in a lengthy public beta, and hasn't been fully Windows Vista compatible for alot of its life.
However, the BBC has recently updated the iPlayer for Windows Vista users, and plans a full release, complete with TV adverts featuring high profile celebrities over the Christmas period.
The service offers full catch up for any programme for a week, and any downloaded show will stay saved for thirty days, before automatically deleting itself.
The BBC has been playing catch up to Channel 4, who launched their 4OD service nearly a year ago. Like 4OD, the iPlayer will soon provide series stacking, and is expected to be available for Virgin Media subscribers and on mobiles in the near future.
You can watch any programme aired over the last few days here.
