Folding@Home team update

A few months after its conception, the WVM Folding@home team is gaining ground!
By gavomatic57 on 10 August 2007

The Windows Vista Magazine folding team (number 66425) is still only a couple of months old now, but its membership seems to be growing at a reasonable rate.  At the end of June we were only six strong, but now we are up to a respectable 14, but we need more people!

KokoClipper seems to be storming ahead with an impressive 26 work unit lead over the rest of the field and making a significant contribution to our 131 completed work units.  We're now ranked 8946 in the world out of 76398 teams, so we're by no means floundering.

Here's the scores so far:

Don't forget, if you want to put your PS3 to good use, remember to change your folding name or you'll be called "PS3" by default, along with the millions of other PS3's that are tearing their way to the top of the folding tables.  The PS3 folding program is a very easy way of contributing to science with the hope of finding cures for disease that result from the misfolding of proteins in our bodies, such as alzheimers and cystic fibrosis.

I've recently upgraded my machine to a Core2Quad and for anyone with a quad core CPU I can heartily recommend the SMP (Symmetric Multi-processing) client, which uses all four cores together on one unit.  The deadlines are much shorter than the regular work units but the points values are so much higher - typically around 1700 points per unit.  Its also a very good workout for your system if you've just overclocked it and want to test its stability.
