Windows Vista DVD drive issue – fixed!
If your PC isn’t recognising your disc drives, we have the answer
By James Stables on 01 November 2007
After installing Adobe Photoshop Elements 6, I was frustrated by the fact that my PC was now failing to acknowledge the existence of my DVD drive in My Computer, or read any discs.
The drive showed up in Device Manager, complete with warning exclamation mark. Mysteriously, the drivers were up to date, disconnecting the device didn’t make any difference and my PC was failing to recognise any other drive that was connected instead.
If you have suffered the same problem, you will be glad to know that we have the answer.
The problem is caused by third-party software with DVD-burning capabilities making a nuisance of itself in the system registry. The problem is that to sort it out, you’re going to have to delve in there and tweak it yourself.
Fear not, as we are here to spiritually guide you, directly to method two in this helpful Microsoft support page.
