Microsoft made a series of announcements over the weekend, including the unveiling of Microsoft Office Live Workspaces, a free online service for Microsoft Office users. Early reports indicate that it provides exactly the right set of online tools we've been waiting for. Among its features (from officelive.com):

  • Access them from almost any computer with a Web browser
  • No more flash drives or sending yourself documents via e-mail

Share With Others

  • Invite people to your workspace
  • You control who can view, comment, and edit your documents
  • Stop manually merging versions from multiple people

Works With Microsoft Office

  • Open and save files directly from Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Synchronize contact, task, and event lists with Outlook
  • No need to learn a new program

The service is currently only available as a limited beta to finate number of people, so it's worth going to the site and signing up now.
