Editing the Start Menu & Programs

By PaulGreyhead on 04 February 2007

With XP I used to edit the Start Menu and create folders for certain groups of programs. For example, I had two Epson printers and an Epson scanner, and rather than have all three items on the start menu, I would create a folder called Epson and move the three items into it. Editing the start menu in this way meant I could keep the menu fairly small, and programs that I rarely used could be put into a folder called 'Hardly used boring stuff' or whatever!

Editing the menus in Vista is just as easy as XP. Like in the example above, if I want to creat a folder called Epson, simply right click on the desktop and choose New Folder. Name it Epson, then drag it onto the start menu. Keep it hovering until the submenu opens, then drop it anywhere on that menu. The folder will then apear in that menu. Then drag the three Epson listings into the new folder. Close the Start menu and then open it again, and the Epson folder should be listed in alphabetical order and should contain the programs you dragged into it.

I've probably made it sound more difficult than it is!

...misleading heading - "Editing" means changing something. The article is more closer to describing "adding" not editing the Start Menu.

Looking how to edit the "All Programs" list, don't want 1/2 my column used up with
Windows this and that and then have to scroll down to look at the added program folders.

Trying to find it in the C: drive, used to be under All Users, but that doesn't exist now, nor is it under Default User.

cheers

Found out how. Right click on "All Programs" and select "Open All Users". Sheesh.
