posted a great article yesterday that I think deserves some attention for anyone who wants to take advantage of the hidden functionality of the start menu and taskbar in Windows vista. It covers:
- Configure the new Start Menu style
- Customize the Taskbar and Start Menu
- Configure the classic Start Menu style
- Customize the Notification Area
- How to pin items to the left pane of the Start Menu
Doing all this allows to you highlight
newly installed programs,
enlarge icons, enable useful
shortcuts like Printers and more. It's quite surprising to find some seriously useful features buried away, and makes you wonder why these aren't more prominantly displayed in Wnidows Vista.
Word of advice, though. The article says you can access the Taskbar and Start Menu Properties windows by typing in 'start menu' into the start search box, but this didn't work for me. However, you can just right-click on the Windows orb and select 'properties' to get to the same menu.
