Hey Safari, stop bugging me!
How to stop those annoying Safari update notices
By paul on 08 April 2008
Just because I have QuickTime installed, why on earth would I want Safari? If you're of a similar opinion, and the constant update notifications prompting you to install Safari are getting on your nerves, there's an easy solution. Go into the
Tools menu and choose
Ignore Selected Updates. Voila - that annoying nagging finally comes to an end. [Thanks to
CyberNet News for the tip]
But there's a surprise in store.
Next time you install an update for QuickTime, you'll get the iTunes/Safari nag message all over again. Once you've gone back into Tools and ignored the "updates", one way to stop the messages appearing again is to launch QuickTime, then go into the
Edit menu, followed by
Preferences, followed by
QuickTime Preferences, followed by
Update (gee, that option's not buried at all, is it?). Now uncheck the
Check for Updates Automatically box.
An alternative, faster way is to hit the
Windows key, type
unin and click
Uninstall QuickTime from the list of options that appear.
