Why bother with all this, when automatic defrag is readily available? Automatic is the more efficient way of combating fragmentation consistently and for longer times. Let the defragger do the job of analyzing and defragging the drive as required, instead of the user wasting his or her time on routine system maintenance. Autodefrag is preferable to the manual way of doing things.

This article is for those who want to do a manual defragmentation. Not intended for those who are satisfied with the automatic one.
