Could this be the end of the HD DVD vs Blu-ray face-off?
Well, if global Supermarket giant Walmart has its way, then it's definately possible.
Supermarkets are well known for imparting their influence on the market through size and power, and this latest move by Walmart could be the deciding factor in which high definition DVD format comes out on top in the end.
Walmart is allegedly in the process of putting in an order with Fuh Yuan (an electronic corporation from Taiwan) for USD $100 million-worth of HD DVD players, with a price tag of around £150. This could seriously impact the HD DVD format's dent on the market.
That's not all - Toshiba recently announced the sale of its 100,000 HD DVD player, which is encouraging news this early in the game, and it's also slashed the price of its lineup of HD DVD players by around £100 each,; it's entry level player now retailing at around £200, which isn't far off the price of a regular DVD player.
