Want the fastest Windows Vista notebook? Get a Mac

US magazine/website PC World declares Apple's Macbook Pro the fastest notebook for running WIndows Vista.
By James De Vile on 31 October 2007

Get a Mac.
I never thought I'd say those words on this site. But I have, and now I have to justify them before I'm given a big cardboard box and am asked to clear my desk and hand over my security card.

First of all, it wasn't me that said it – it was US web site www.pcworld.com, which tests numerous laptops every year, running them through its own real-world benchmarking software Worldbench, which performs such tasks as word processing, video editing and graphics rendering. And when running Windows Vista, Apple's MacBook Pro notebook actually outperformed every other notebook the site has tested – ever. That's apparently including the likes of Dell, Toshiba and Alienware.

Secondly, a MacBook Pro comes pre-installed with Apple's OS X, so bear in mind you'll need to quickly grab yourself a copy of Windows Vista in order to actually enjoy such wonderful performance in games, which pushes the price up quite a bit. In theory, though, it's quite a startling revelation, and something PC notebook manufacturers should probably take note of.

And if you don't believe me or PC World, take a look at this video of the demanding game BioShock running on a Macbook Pro under Microsoft Windows...

I don't think so. While we are on the subject do you not think the Steve Jobs and co. are being a bit to cheeky or to put is more plainly taking the P*** with the BSOD icon in their big cat OS (Leopard). I wonder what would happen if Microsoft did something similar. J.B.

Why don't you think so? As for the BSOD icon; yes, it's pretty cheeky and not particularly subtle. Thing is, those of us who ‘get the joke’ will also know that Apple and Microsoft have been at each other’s throats for years, and that this is no worse than representing PC users as dullards on national TV with Apple’s “Mac people are cool, PC people are boring” adverts. As it stands, performing an upgrade of Leopard may apparently result in a bluescreen of its own…

Now wait a minute, I do get the joke and I stand by what I said. The thing that really ticks me off is that Apple can get away with these so called jokes. This isn't about which OS is better or worse, it is about who can get their dig in first. Frankly, I am getting quite tired of all these kindergarten school boy antics by two of the leading money taking corporations in the world. It is about time they grew up, and started selling the public what they want namely products that work, that are as secure as they can be, and that will benefit the user in everyday life. Rant over. J.B.

I agree, JB. I saw the icon and just thought it seemed pretty childish.
