Why can’t I hear any sound?

Published on 24 January 2007

Check you have a soundcard installed and that your speakers are plugged in, switched on and working correctly. If all of this is correct, click Start > Control Panel, select System and Maintenance and click Device Manager. Look for a yellow question mark next to your soundcard, right-click it and choose Properties, then investigate further from the General tab.

This seems to be a common problem with users running Vista on older PC's. I found I had to reinstall the old sound card drivers by accessing the file properties and setting the installation program to run in Windows XP compatability mode.
