I'm a PC tech by day and help folks with computers in the evening. I built my Vista Ultimate rig so I could learn the interface and support new Vista users who call me for help. (Also, to play PC games, but don't tell my wife.) Like most people, I'm terrible at remembering to do backups, and the backup functionality of Windows Home Server strikes me as intriguing. What I learn about Windows Home Server, I'll pass on to others.

Thanks for the consideration.

I am an infastructure technician in the Air Force. I also have a family of six with six computers that need constant attention. Currently I have no backup plan! I know, I know, BAD! I am currently in the process of building a HTPC style PC to replace the current PC that is being used as my Home theater PC. I want to use my current HTPC as my Home Server PC. We NEED Home Server!

Thank you.

Well, I don't know about deserve, but I enjoyed testing it, and it certainly made management of my home network very easy. With 3 kids in school, all working on various projects, it was nice to centrally manage nad back up their data.

I can't say I deserve it anymore than everyone else. I am a technician and support all versions of windows. I recently installed vista ultimate at home to learn it better. I have 5 computers at home 2 of which are for the kids. I don't always have time to keep everything backed up. This sure would be nice to help simplify managing my home network. I just finished building a pc to use as a server and this would help so much.
Thank you.

Well I have been trying on my own to mimic the functions of a Home Server for some time, shared Audio and Video, centralized backups and security for my 2 kids not to delete my music collection. Home Server would allow me to make sure it it correct. thanks for the chance. Rodney

I can envisage a time when homes will have a central server for all the grunt work involved with the running of programs and processes for any given system, with the touch sensitive screen slave units [a not so dumb terminal] containing just communication protocols and high definition graphics capabilities. Having a ‘Home Server’ would be a great step towards that eventuality.

We have three computers at present each running a different operating system; the main one being Vista Ultimate which runs a number of virtual drives for older operating systems, this is handy for when friends, family or acquaintances need to fix a problem on their systems, as it is easier with a visual reference than relying on my memory. With all information kept on a single server this should reduce the chances of lost data when replacing computers.

Computers to me are a hobby, as I don’t use them so much as play with them.

Hi you might remember that I was in the Mag couple months ago. As I am in the Army I have been given permission from my Commanding Officer to build a server for my barrack so that all the soldiers can dedicate anything to all our brave men and woman who lost their lives in Iraq and Afgan. With Home Server we will be able to achieve this goal more easily as it is hobby for my company. Thanks Ward

Hi, I'm an average Joe Bloggs with 2 daughters who are contantly on their computers. With no current backup plan my nightmare is to have 2 adolescent girls on my case 24-7 due to a crash.
Please help me to retain my last few hair follicles and find me deserving of the WHS as it would be something beneficial to my family and my continuing health.

Hi,

I do a lot of writing (articles) for my blog and other websites and right now I have over 30GB of word documents and almost over 200GB of digital video and I think WHS would allow me and my family to share our "digital memories" for years to come. Also, WHS will help me keep backups of all of my important papers and images for those word documents.

Thanks for the consideration!

Bill

Between me and my wife and my 7 month old son, we have 5 computers in the house (2 desktops, 3 laptops). No, the kid doesn't get his own laptop. I just bought a new one for me and it came with windows vista. We're bored of having windows XP in all but one of the computers so I think a windows home server edition is a nice flavor addition. :)

I think, the reason why I should win a copy of Windows Home Server is because of I'm very young and currently know more about servers, networking and web coding more than any of my IT teachers. I feel that because of my skills and my high hopes and dreams, that using this peice of software, I can create a loving place for my websites and my home network and perhaps this would be my first step into the general web hosting service for the public. I feel that using this as my server OS would beat any linux os(even CentOS) at being a general and safe OS to host your website and your network. I believe in doing things your self, so why pay for a server at a server centre while you can create one at home? What would I do if I win this OS? I would simply take my brothers **old** computer and install this on it, I would offer a free and safe web hosting to the public. I would also set up a home network so me and my brother won't need to be buying 4GB mem sticks and what not but instead storing it on a PC which is accessable by both of us.

Actually, I feel that I don't deserve home server but my fiancee does. She at the cross road of what field she wants to specialize in (database management or web designing). Of course I'm trying to convince her to try network management, since that is my field of knownledge. If she wins, it will server two purposes: 1. She can now maintain the network(sometime I need a brake, when things brake)and 2. She can answer the computer questions that her family constantly kept asking me! Thanks!

I feel I deserve to win a copy of Windows Home Server because I constantly perform tasks manually for my family that I'm sure WHS could automate. In essence, it would make my life easier, and, therefore, more enjoyable. After all, that's the whole point of it, is it not? :-)

Hhmmm... me, deserve a copy of Windows Home Server? with my wife doing a correspondence course, step-son doing a college course, step-daughter doing a uni course, why would i need WHS? To keep me sane and give me some time do do my photography course. At the moment all I seem to do is spend my time backing up pc's and finding 'lost' files. Why don't they all just read Windows Vista Magazine then I wouldn't need to resort to winning a copy of WHS and someone else could have it......

Actually none of us deserve the software. It should be given to someone who does not know how to do the tasks that this software will help them with. Most of the folks who have left messages before mine have no actual need for the software. they should be doing backups of their systems already and if they want the other functions this software will give they shoud switch to unix or build their own NAS.

I will transfer all routine responsibility to Windows Home Server to take care, making my life easier and tension free.

I'm a school ked who loves computers. I go on them at school but at home is where the fun starts. I love administarting and have a simple network connecting my compter to my laptop but I'd love to have a whole server connecting the office pc and the living room computer. It'd make my passion for computers grow! After I leave school I want to either pass on my I.t skills as an I.t teacher or work at a magazine; like the vista one.

Computers are becoming more and more essential in the modern home. They are already indispensable at the office.

As a working Dad I try to manage and maintain the constantly evolving demands of my family to use the PCs we have. Teenage kids want information and tools to complete their homework, my wife is trying to start a home business on the Internet and then there are all the demands for multimedia, for photos, music or videos, and also games. There just doesn't seem to be enough time to keep all of this running smoothly.

Windows Home Server would really help. It would provide a central hub to manage and maintain all our PCs and to protect all of the valuable data that is currently distributed all around the network.

Windows Home Server would really enable us all to enjoy all the benefits that technology can deliver.

I suffer from what is called Short Term Memory Loss as a result of a Traumatic Brain Injury. I have a home PC that is Vista Ultimate, I have my Windows XP SP2 as my school laptop that holds my memory. I take my computer to class, and use my webcam to record the class, and I review the class over and over again to help me retain as much as possible. I also keep the logs of my running/swimming/biking (I completed the Vancouver Tri and I am training for Ironman) I also have an Xbox 360 and use it as a media extender. Having windows home server would alow me the ability to connect all my Windows programs in one easy to use network.

Cheers

I deserve it because it should have shipped with Windows long back. I use Windows XP and Vista in my home and I should have Home Server automatically. I am looking forward to the backup, domain name, sharing services and monitoring services it offers.

It's the same old story, just like a mechanics car. I support a large business network, with lots of various data protection systems in place to make sure we don't loose a single piece of data.

Waht do I have at Home, 4 computers, inc 1 vista premium media centre, with all the family photos on, and it's all backed up with....NOTHNING. how bad is that? WHS makes it easy to back all this up, plus easy to rebuild a system with the bootable CD. Then there's the remote access feature so I can get access to all my files.

Brilliant System.

I am an IT Engineer at a school for advanced science and mathematics students. Because we must follow a state mandated budget, it is difficult to get software of this type for testing. I am trying to move our institution from UNIX to Microsoft Windows and there is a huge need for Windows Home Server in our student housing. I would like to be able to show this need to others so that we can get our projects off the ground and improve the computing life of our students.
