Internet Explorer 7 the safest browser ever
Opera and Firefox shamed in vulnerabilities study
By James Stables on Wednesday, March 05, 2008
Internet Explorer is officially the safest browser available, after coming top of a recent study, which examined the amount of vulnerabilities found in the leading four web browsers.
IE7, Safari, Opera and Firefox were all examined, and the amount of vulnerabilities reported in the latter quarter of the year.
Opera came out worst, accounting for 38% of all risks reported in the fourth quarter of 2007. Surprisingly Firefox was next, accounting for 32% of reported risks and Safari second at 15%.
However, Internet Explorer 7 found came out top of the poll, only accounting for 10% of vulnerabilities reported. This is the best performance in a long line of improving results for Microsoft’s browser.
These support Microsoft’s claims that Windows Vista is the most secure operating system ever created.
Mandeep Khera, VP of Marketing at Cenzic, the company which undertook the study, told the Softpedia web site:
"Application vulnerabilities in Q4 tracked the first three quarters in terms of their dominance, forming 71 percent, a three percent increase over Q3, of the total 1,404 published vulnerabilities.”
“In the browser category, surprisingly Internet Explorer had less vulnerability than Safari, Opera, and Mozilla Firefox browsers,” he said.
