The dirt-cheap way to watch Blu-ray movies

Get a high definition Blu-ray player for your PC now - for the price of a night out.
By NickO on 11 September 2008

It seemed like just 6 months ago that you had to spend an arm-and-a-leg to be able to watch high definition movies.

But now you can pick up a high-quality Blu-ray player for your PC, all for just under £70.

The LG GGC-H20L drive fits into a spare bay at the front of your PC, or you can simply replace your current optical drive and will play back Blu-ray and HD-DVD movies, and you can even read or re-write to CD or DVD discs.
Provided you’ve got an HDMI output (or a DVI-to-HDMI converter) from your motherboard or graphics card, you can even hook up your PC to that large widescreen LCD TV in your living room.

Get one now for £66.96 from here.

Finally a manufactoer has stepped upto the plate. LG has not only brought Blu-ray (as well as HD-DVD) but they have also dropped the price by a hugh amount. I remember just seeing in Argos about last xmas that a blu-ray dvd player was selling nearly £1000. Well done to LG :)

For this sort of money, it'd be crazy not to get one of these players. I'm currently building a media/gaming PC and I'll be buying the LG Blu-ray player at the same time.

Hold your horses before purchasing this drive you need a high performance machine to actually play blu ray movies efficiently.

You will need an intel dual core processor of 2.5Ghz, 4GB ram, Nvidia/ATI GPU (GeForce
8500). Poor performance is identified by jittery picture and unsynchronised voice/lips. Furthermore you'd need an adequate blu-ray software player. (vlc media player is free and sufficient)

Finally if you intend to play blu-ray films on a standard lcd monitor then it's a waste. Blu-ray was intended to be viewed in all its glory at 1920x1080p resolution giving you vibrant and sharp lifelike images. Recap 1) Processor 2) Memory 3) Graphics card 4) Blu-Ray Drive 5) LCD Full HD PC Monitor. 6) DTS/Dolby Digital compatible soundcard. 7) 5 point surround sound speaker system THX/Dolby.

Now you see the real cost of the Blu-ray drive, blu-ray isn't blu-ray unless its blu-ray.
