New Version of Mobile Device Center Released

By beckyh on Thursday, February 01, 2007

Just had an email through from the guys who develop the Windows Mobile Device Centre software to enable you to sync with mobile devices.

Anyway they say that Windows Mobile Device Centre is now out of beta and a new full proper version has been released today.

You need to uninstall the old version and download and install the new version from here http://www.microsoft.com/windowsmobile/devicecenter.mspx

So far it is Active Sync in a new suit.

Yep active sync in a new suit, but I quite like the new suit. It goes with the rest of the vista theme :)

It's a shame it doesn't work any more reliably though :(

Does not work on Windows Mobile older than 2003.

Ernie you shoudl not have a problem with it installing on WM5.
Are you getting any particular error?
05/02/07 | 07:49

Becky yes the error says that it does not support devices with Windows Mobile older than 2003, and then does not go any further.

Well Ernie that is certainly odd. I really do not know of a fix for you, because it should simply work. Unless its a bug.

Just to clarify, you installed it on your PC and then plugged in your device and then you got the error?
07/02/07 | 11:26

To clarify the error occurs when trying to sync to the device, even with the new drvers installed. Its not much of an issue for me personally, I just can't sync the work Ipaq.

I have snipped a screen shot if you want to look.

Cheers

Ernie

Just been through to the website and reread all the release notes. It does actually state that it does not work with anything older than Windows Mobile 2003.

Hi Ernie, I have totally misread your problem. I actually read it as being a problem with newer versions than 2003.
God what a clutz I am.
I have wm2003se and it works okay, so that must be the cut off.

I see now, it says you cannot use the full sync but can browse the device and add and remove files that way. That is of course no good if you need to sync files or install programs that are not cabs.

This is really rubbish, I don't see any reason why they would want to limited it, the only thing is maybe they want people to upgrade to a newer version.
Sorry I misunderstood you.

Have you tried Yahoo active sync? I did try it on Vista last week and could not get it to load up. Worth keeping an eye out to see if they have updated with a Vista version.

Doesnt look like theres a Vista version yet, but keep your eyes peeled.

Yahoo Intellisync will enable you to sync your notes, calendar and contacts with your Yahoo account. If you dont have a Yahoo account you could create one just for that.
Its a workaround maybe?

Download the version you need for your device.
You can sync your addresses, calendar, tasks with yahoo from your device. You can use the yahoo online calendar it it will sync with pocket pc. Also you can import your windows mail contacts then export to device.
