Free WiFi In Midtown
By JoshPhillips on 16 November 2007
If you live in New York, or just visit frequently, you'll be happy to know that the CBS Corporation is going to be blanketing Midtown Manhattan with free WiFi service. The coverage area will include Times Square north to Central Park between 6th and 8th Avenues. It's set to be live by the end of the month, but it's currently slated as a six-month "pilot program", so get it while the getting's good.
Of course, nothing is truly free, right? So what's the catch? Why, advertising, of course. When you attach to the free WiFi and pop open a browser, you'll be hit with all sorts of news, sports, weather, entertainment choices, lists of nearby restaurants, and so forth. Which is perfectly fine with me. I'll take a page of ads for free WiFi any day. Especially if it means I can do a blog posting from Times Square.
