A new magazine – now in a new format
By paul on 02 February 2007
To showcase a new technology called
Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF), which is built into Windows Vista, we’ve teamed up with Microsoft and media experts
Armadillo Systems to bring you a special electronic issue of
Windows Vista Magazine. The e-magazine, which you can view in your browser, uses the same technology that the British Library’s
Turning The Pages 2.0 project uses to bring the world’s most valuable books to life.
We’re delighted with the way the application turned out – unlike other electronic magazines, you can zoom into the pages without the text and images blurring, and you can even rotate the pages and drag the magazine round inside your browser window.
This is just one example of the power of WPF, but get ready to see a lot more – the 3D capabilities afforded by this technology are providing software developers with the opportunity to develop incredible new interfaces to even the simplest piece of software.
You can view the e-magazine at the link below. It’s best viewed with Internet Explorer 7 on Windows Vista and there may be a short wait while it loads in your browser for the first time. You can also view the application using Internet Explorer 7 on Windows XP, but if you don’t yet have the .NET framework installed you’ll be prompted to download it.
