The FREE anti-virus solution for Vista

No need to pay for security
By sanderton on 08 February 2007

When you install Vista, Security Centre quite rightly starts nagging you to get an antivirus programme installed ASAP.

Many of the links which Vista provides will take you to paid-for solutions from the likes of Symantec, Trend or even Microsft's own OneCare.

But there is an excellent, 100% free and entirely Vista compatible antivirus solution out there from Grisoft which works brilliantly. There are no missing features; the protection is in no way inferior.

It's called AVG Free and you can downlaod and install it for free from here http://free.grisoft.com/doc/2/lng/us/tpl/v5

If you have more than one PC you can run it on as many PCs as you like (iincluding XP machines).

And unlike certain ant-virus solutions I could mention [cough]Norton[cough], it doesn't cause any other issues.

Really, there is no catch to this one.

Another good "free home version" antivirus program is "avast!" free download and registration for home use. Check it out at www.avast.com

Great program without that bloated feeling!

I ahve been using AVG for sometime now, it really is a good package and the back support is terrific. AVG have also adised that they are about to upgrade the software to meet the requirements of VISTA.

I use AVG too. I find it less intrusive than Norton and it runs great with Vista. I think I read somewhere that AVG were involved in the test for Vista aswell.I certainly would recommend it to anyone
